(December 31, 2023 Sunday). Two contradictory rulings mark the judicial war between Jehovah's Witnesses and their "apostates".. CE Noticias Financieras English. https://advance.lexis.com/api/document?collection=news&id=urn:contentItem:6B0V-4FW1-DYY9-01VF-00000-00&context=1516831.

The judicial battle that former members of the Jehovah's Witnesses maintain with the congregation to which they belonged has stepped on the accelerator in recent weeks. The sentence that has recognized the right to criticize in public the practices of "control" that the Witnesses exercise over their followers and the "ostracism" to which they subject those who leave, has given wings to the association of those affected, which a few days ago announced a battery of measures to denounce their situation. But the victims have encountered two contradictory sentences: a few weeks earlier, another ruling condemned one of their leaders to pay 5,000 euros in compensation to the Witnesses for referring to the congregation as a "dangerous sect".

The two lawsuits have analyzed very similar issues. The one that ended in victory for those affected, known last week, revolved around the very existence of the Spanish Association of Victims of Jehovah's Witnesses, its statutes and its complaints. The one that has ended in defeat in a different court did not seem very different: the statements of one of its spokespersons during the presentation of the Association in March 2019.
